What cause Corpus Luteum Cyst

The ovaries normally produce an egg each month. During the ovulation, a follicle is produced inside the ovary. This follicle has cyst structure and when an egg is released during ovulation the mature follicle ruptures. From the empty follicle a corpus luteum is formed, and if pregnancy does not occur, the corpus luteum should dissolves. If that not happens the most common type of ovarian cyst is formed – functional ovarian cysts. They are named so because they are part of an ovary’s normal functioning.

There are two types of functional ovarian cysts — follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts.

Corpus luteum cysts are some of the most common types of ovarian cyst. They are yellow mass of tissue that forms from the follicle after ovulation. When the follicle seals off after the egg is released, and fluid continues to accumulate in it, corpus luteum cyst is formed. Usually disappear within three menstrual cycles.

Symptoms

Usually they don’t cause any unusual symptoms. Sometimes, however, corpus luteum cysts may fill with clear liquid or blood, expand, and attach to the ovary. This in some cases, may grow or bleed. These corpus luteum cysts can cause abdominal or pelvic pain, and may require surgical correction. Ovarian conservative treatment can laparoscopically be performed with intraoperative autologous blood transfusion.

Rarely corpus luteum cysts can rupture, causing sudden, sharp pain and some internal bleeding.

Ovarian torsion. How it occur?

Rarely it may cause the ovary to twist around the ovarian ligament and can cut off the blood flow to the ovary. The most common symptoms of ovarian torsion are pain and wamble.

Usually corpus luteum cysts, do not affect woman’s life, but if it rupture, cause sudden, sharp pain and some internal bleeding. If you experience these symptoms, seek emergency care.

In some cases (rarely) corpus luteum cysts can results in malignant ovarian cysts. Even then they do not cause any symptoms until they reach an advanced stage. If you experience any discomforts don’t doubt- consult with your doctor!
